Family days out always end up costing too much money, don’t they? If this is the experience you have of trying to make the most of your kids free time at the weekends and during school holidays, then you have come to the right place. The truth is that fun great days out as a family don’t have to cost an arm and a leg, as you will see from the following article.
Head Out To Your Local City or National Park
As well as the wealth of natural beauty there is to be found in the UK’s beautiful countryside, there are also great national and city parks up and down the country. The best thing about these parks is that they are all free to enter and often include more than just a small body of water and a swing park. Many parks are the host to free activities for kids such as nature trails and mini rambles and there are also inexpensive activities such as water sports and miniature golf that provide little and big ones with hours of fun.
Trips to the Seaside
Surely we all have fond memories of getting candyfloss or a bag of chips and walking along the promenade or pier after building the world’s biggest sand castle? The best thing about that type of day out is that it really doesn’t cost much. All UK beaches are completely free to enter and even if you have to buy some buckets, spades and a Frisbee or two, these kinds of toys and accessories can be picked up at any pound shop for next to nothing, especially during the summer months when the demand is higher.
If all the members of your family have bikes you should consider trying out one of the many bike trails located throughout the UK. Not only is this a great way to get a daily dose of exercise, you will enjoy the sense of achievement when you finish and are rewarded, depending where you decide to cycle, with some truly amazing vistas of scenic landscape that Britain is famous for around the world.
Get Creative in the Countryside
Do you remember that television programme called Watercolour Challenge on Channel 4 during the 90’s?? Well, you could use that as inspiration for a creative and different kind of cheap day out with the family. Even if you have to invest in some watercolours, paper and easels, if you look after them properly you will only have to pay for these once and can use them again and again.
Choose somewhere scenic or maybe even somewhere iconic like a well-known landmark or building and take the kids, the paints and the rest of the accessories and then you can all have a bash at painting. The great thing is that it doesn’t matter how good or bad at painting it is just an excuse to do something a bit different with the kids.
