How to Manage Your Budget on Home Décor?

August 11, 2012 by Sally

A home is a place where you can find peace and comfort. The home décor plays an integral part but it often involves a hefty amount. Well, here’s good news for you – it is possible to manage your budget on home décor without overspending.

You need to be aware that home remodeling is different from the décor. If you’re on a tight budget, you can handle the decorations on your own. Before starting out, you need to establish a workable budget. After this, you should learn to prioritize. If your budget is inadequate to cover the different areas of the house, you can choose the rooms that really need some serious home décor (e.g. living room, kitchen, or dining room).

Once you’ve set your priorities, you can now choose the style for the home décor. You have several choices – country, contemporary, Victorian, French country, and many others. Next, you have to choose the color for the walls. For instance, if you prefer walls to be white, pink, yellow, and blue, the country style is ideal. However, if you want off-white or rosy pink, the Victorian style is the one for you.

The budget should also cover furniture, rugs, draperies, and art work. For an average homeowner, you may find these things extremely expensive. However, there are ways to manage your budget without totally emptying your pockets.

Choosing the right furniture is vital and it should match with your chosen style. Just in case you have existing furniture, you don’t have to replace them. You simply need to purchase new slip covers with matching patterns or styles. There are also online stores where you can purchase cheap rugs or draperies that match with the furniture. Genuine artwork can be costly but there are now cheaper alternatives. If you want, you can print or photocopy images and place them inside cheap frames.

As you can see, managing your budget for home décor is not that hard. If your budget is too small, why not paint coat racks, clocks, bookends, shelves, furniture, and baskets with a new shade or color? There are textured paints and spray paints that you can purchase this purpose. The secret is to simply choose matching paint colors that go with the style of the décor. You don’t have to purchase new furniture, lamps, etc. You can make use of what you already own and just use your creativity.

Being wise is important when you’re shopping. Basically, you can shop at a local or online store. There are more discounts when you purchase online but just in case you’re a regular customer at a local craft store or home center, you may be able to find great deals within your area.

You have to stick to your budget no matter what. Try to be realistic and get only the essentials. As long as you know your décor requirements, you can finish your home project in no time. Make sure that you invest time and effort in decorating the home. If you are busy at work or with the house chores, you can do it over the weekend and the whole family can help as well. Create a checklist to monitor your progress. It’s best to work with one room after another. When every family member is cooperating, you can finish the décor and enjoy a relaxing atmosphere at home.
