How to Save Big On Legal Fees

March 16, 2016 by Sally

There are some of those life essentials we simply can’t do without and try as we may, we just can’t avoid spending money on them. Expenses such as your child’s education, medical bills and even legal fees will have us all doing whatever it takes to come up with the required money, if we can help it. Legal fees in particular are often a great source of some big spending, largely due to the general approach people have to legal matters. We tend to only act when the need arises, like when you’re in trouble with the law or if you really need competent and professional legal advice or assistance on something significant.

It shouldn’t be this way and in fact, if you approach your legal matters in a proactive manner – in the same way that you approach your medical affairs and your children’s education – you can be in for some huge savings on legal fees. If you invest a little bit of your money every week or every month with the aim of covering potential legal issues which may arise, you’ll find that on average, you end up paying much less for even some of the biggest legal issues you may run into.

Consumer Legal Plans

Covering any possible legal costs by investing a little each month can be achieved through legal plans which are often set up by financial services providers with a dedicated legal division. It works on the same principles of paying insurance premiums and to a certain extent can be thought of as legal coverage. You pay a certain amount each month directly to a law firm or the money is paid to an insurance company which will then appoint a legal representative for you (or pay for one of your choice) in the unfortunate event that you’re faced with legal challenges and their associated costs. Trying to quickly get a lawyer when your need for legal services is urgent can otherwise be extremely expensive, since most lawyers charge by the hour, just for consultation.

Those annoying legal-plan ads which seem to be dominating TV commercial slots throughout the day could come in handy after all.

Specialised Legal Services

As much as law firms, private legal professionals and attorneys / lawyers revel (financially) in the big, expensive cases, this method of operation isn’t ideal for them either. They’d much rather have a steady flow of income and this has opened up the door to some major savings on legal fees. Don’t use a single private lawyer or law firm to handle all your legal services, like if you need to change your name perhaps, or if you need to claim a payout from something like a workplace injury. Law firms and various legal professionals have gotten with the times and prefer to offer a specialised service which is solely focussed on one legal specialty. Many of them offer these services conveniently online too, making full use of their powers to solicit Limited Power of Attorney from you so that they can represent you appropriately and provide for your legal requirements at very affordable prices.
