How to Spruce Up Your Bathroom on the Cheap!

August 2, 2015 by Sally

Everyone would love a glorious bathroom. It’s cool, calm and relaxing, and you can burst all your bubbles in peace, quite literally.

However, home renovation is rarely cheap, especially where a room is mostly concerned with furniture and appliances that are connected to the plumbing system. The room is overused, under-appreciated and can deteriorate quickly in the wrong hands, which would make said hands have to dig deeper into emptying pockets.

You can actually make your bathroom look bigger, better and smarter without having to break your bank account, and that would actually help increase the value of your home and add more years to a bathroom’s lifespan over time:

1. Throw out anything unnecessary

It is really easy to keep many things that are either old, overused or completely forgotten. This goes doubly so if you tend to keep a lot of accessories and make up in your bathroom.

Take a day to just dig through your cabinets, drawers and cupboards, or even just take a good look around to see if you can get rid of anything. Sell it, give it away or even recycle it. You’ll find that the space you clear up breathes new life into your bathroom.

2. Use quirky containers

A popular addition to any room would be mason jars, as they pretty much look good anywhere, are reasonably affordable and are flexible in terms of storage. Use it as a pot for an indoor plant, keep your nail polish in there, or use it to store miscellaneous supplies.

3. Frame up

You can find many cool-looking frames at most garage sales or vintage shops that would look great on a bathroom wall. Try not to keep any family pictures or portraits in there, however, as I would imagine that would be awkward to look at while emptying your bowels.

4. Change your towels and rugs

This is really simple, cheap and surprisingly effective. Well-placed accessories and necessities can completely change the look of the bathroom. Try out different colors, patterns and designs rather than going with the same ones over and over.

5. Add small shelves on walls that are not in the way

Shelves are easy to install, especially for those who have done DIY in the past. They are pretty inexpensive, and you will find that they can help you completely change what your bathroom looks and feels like. You can put many accessories and decorations on them and exchange those out when you feel the need for something new.

At the end of the day, you really cannot make a bathroom look completely brand new without having to spend money. You can, however, make it look recreated, redecorated and brought back to life. You can improve your bathroom, or any room in your home for that manner, by being creative and thinking out of the box and save yourself some extra cash.
