Ways to Make a Smaller Room Feel and Look Bigger

August 28, 2015 by Sally

We all have an idea of what we like in terms of style and design for our bedrooms. However, in some cases problems such as space restrictions can make it difficult to achieve the perfect look for your bedroom. This is a room where you should be able to enjoy some rest and relaxation but if you are relegated to a cramped space that feels claustrophobic it can be difficult to achieve this goal.

While there is little that you can do about the actual size of the room unless you are prepared to pay big money for an extension, you can take steps to make the room feel and appear larger. This is a great way of making the most of your small bedroom space and will enable you to enjoy relaxing in a more spacious and calming environment.

Some of the steps you can take

There are a number of steps that you can take if you want to make your bedroom look and feel bigger than it actually is. Many of these are simple yet very effective methods that can make a big difference to the end result.

First off, consider the colour of your walls. Darker colours will make the room feel and look more closed in so you should always opt for pale colours. You don’t have to stick to cream or ivory – you can also go for pastels such as blue, green, pink, and other light shades. Adding a little artwork to the walls will help to brighten them up too, so you can invest in some pictures to hang on the wall in order to add a focal point.

Buying the right furniture is essential if you want to make the most of your space. If you want a double bed in the room but don’t want to use up all of your available space, Bedstar offers a range of small double beds. You will find a range of bed options from this specialist retailer but by opting for a small double bed rather than a standard one you can benefit from having more space in your room. Another thing to consider is furniture such as chests of drawers and computer desks. Rather than opting for furniture that take up a lot of floor space, go for something that is narrow and tall. This way you can make maximum use of wall space, which will help to make your room look more spacious.

Lighting can also make a big difference when it comes to the appearance of your room. It is always a good idea to have lamps in addition to your main light in order to create the right ambiance and light up darker areas of the room. However, you can save space by opting for wall lights rather than free standing or table lamps.
